To further strengthen Girl child Education in Nigeria, the Malala Fund has approved $1.7 million for nine Nigerian organisations to boost girls’ education and address the country’s high number of out-of-school girls.
Beneficiaries include the Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative, Anti-Sexual Violence Lead Support Initiative, Black Girls’ Dream Initiative, BudgiT Foundation, Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative and others.
The fund said the investment aligns with its 2025–2030 strategy, targeting regions with the highest rates of girls missing out on school. It added that 66% of the grants will go to young women-led organisations, more than triple its original target.
The grantees will focus on gender-responsive budgeting, transparency, school re-entry for pregnant and married girls, and digital tools to track education spending and identify infrastructure gaps.
CEO Lena Alfi said the fund supports organisations that understand community-level challenges. Co-founder Malala Yousafzai added that the initiative aims to help married girls and young mothers return to and complete secondary education.
While this is a commendable initiative, do you think the funds will be properly utilised to make meaningful impact across communities?
