Hon. Bello El-Rufai, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, has called for an urgent review of the salaries and welfare of Nigeria’s police officers, soldiers, and other security personnel. During a legislative session on Thursday, El-Rufai emphasized that while recruitment is important for enhancing national security, it is not enough on its own to address the challenges faced by the country’s security forces.
The lawmaker pointed out that the welfare and motivation of security personnel are key to improving their performance and overall effectiveness. He proposed an immediate increase in the basic salaries and welfare packages for police officers and military personnel.
“Strengthening our security forces goes beyond just recruitment,” El-Rufai stated. “We must prioritize increasing their pay and improving their welfare. It’s essential to allocate the necessary funds to make this happen.”
How do you think improving the welfare of security personnel could impact Nigeria’s national security?
