The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding members of the Nigerian Armed Forces performing their official duties.
This statement follows an incident involving a naval officer, Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, after the officer reportedly prevented the minister from gaining access to a parcel of land in the Gaduwa district of Abuja.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Defence Minister emphasized that no harm will befall any military personnel carrying out lawful assignments.
The Minister further noted that the Constitution guarantees protection and immunity for officers acting under legitimate orders, stressing that the government stands firmly behind Lt. Yerima and all security operatives performing their duties in good faith.
Does this support by the Defence Minister put to rest the minds of Nigerians, or all eyes are still on the Armed Forces and the FCT Minister, Wike?
