The face off between lieutenant A.M Yerima and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesome Wike has been buzzing the internet, since the video of the altercation went viral yesterday.
Before the face off, FCT minister has been under fire with Lawyers and Civil society organization calling on Nigerian President to call Wike to order as he was been accused of land revocation, land grabbing across major cities in the heart of the country’s capital.
While Wike and his office continue to deny any wrong doing, citing their pledge to fulfilling the dividends of democracy under the Tinubu administration, his actions and movement have been contradictory to public acceptance and believe of what his office should be doing in respect to land and infrastructursl development in the FCT.
Following this series of allegations and public ridicule of Wike’s utterances and actions by the public, the incident that occurred yesterday tends to delight the minds of Nigerians,as netizens described it as “Wike has met his Match”
In the viral video, the Naval officer Lt.AM Yerima stopped Wike and his men from demolishing a property belonging to an ex-Chief of Naval Staff, insisting that he was taking orders from his superior, an action Wike describe as disdainful, unprofessional and belittling.
It is important to note that according to the Nigerian constitution, personnel of a regimeted body like the armed forces, is only answerable to superior officers which is otherwise known as “obey the last order” and the only command to counter the order must be from the GCFR. However, many personnel in the past habe fallen short, as they play mercy to politicians and high profile personalities in the country.
This move by lieutenant Yerima has shown the bravery, courage and dignity of the Nigerian Armed Forces to stand by orders without talking for intimidatiom, influence or affluence. It further remind Nigerians that there are officer who will not Kowtow to politicians in the face of intimidation
All eyes are on the Nigeriam Government, the FCT Minister and the Nigerian Armed Forces on the follow up of this incident
