In a troubling escalation of violence, bandits have once again targeted the Osokoko–Obajana road in Kogi State, hijacking two commercial 18-seater buses in a brazen attack. Eyewitnesses confirmed that all passengers aboard the intercepted bus were abducted, though the exact number of captives is still unknown.
The Nigerian Army swiftly responded to the attack, engaging the assailants in a bid to restore order. A video circulating on social media captured the aftermath, showing travelers waiting patiently for security forces to clear the area before they could continue their journeys. While no casualties or property loss have been reported, the attack highlights the deepening insecurity on vital routes in Kogi State, a region that has become increasingly plagued by armed gangs.
This latest incident is part of a broader pattern of violence that continues to unfold across the north-central region of Nigeria. Just days before, the community of Aiyetoro Kiri in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area was also rocked by bandit activity, where local vigilantes courageously intervened to rescue abducted students from Kiri High School. Tragically, the operation cost the life of a vigilante and a local resident, highlighting the severe human toll of the ongoing crisis.
While the swift military response in Kogi State is commendable, the persistent nature of these attacks demands a more comprehensive strategy to safeguard Nigeria’s citizens, especially those in vulnerable areas.
