Another Wave of Insecurity as Gunmen Attack School in Niger State, Abduct Students

Nigeria continues to grapple with persistent insecurity as gunmen reportedly kidnapped an undisclosed number of students during an attack on St. Mary’s Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Niger State.

According to reports, the assailants invaded the private Catholic school, located in Agwara Local Government Area, in the early hours of today. Sources said the attackers arrived in large numbers, riding on more than 60 motorcycles and accompanied by a van. The school’s gatekeeper was shot and left with serious injuries during the assault.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Command stated that tactical units, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, had been deployed to the area. Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun noted that combined security forces were conducting extensive search operations across surrounding forests to ensure the immediate and safe rescue of the abducted students.

These recurring incidents have raised widespread concern. Many Nigerians are questioning whether the country’s security architecture is failing or if the nation is simply passing through another difficult phase?
